As 2023 was approaching I thought to myself “what was my good?” As the owner of a kindness project I wasn’t sure if after 2 years I had anything major to report on this. When I started this a couple years ago, I was really hoping to make a significant donation to the Ronald McDonald House Charities in honor of a beloved child who lost her fight to life. I quickly realized this wasn’t going to happen but perhaps i can influence a few people along the way. I will not necessarily know this but what I can do is start with myself. And, although I may not have saved a life(actually I may have as I did influence a friend to stop smoking), I could make someone’s day brighter. This sounds simple right? However, at the end of your day, can you answer “what was your good”? I am making it a point to ask myself this question every single day in 2023. Here is how my first week went:
1/1/2023- I made my daughter(married in August and not living with me) who is struggling with an autoimmune disorder meals for lunch for her work week taken from the Autoimmune Protocol. I dedicated a couple hours to make good tasting healthy meals for her.
01/02- I made dinner for my daughter(and rest of family) based on the AIP and created a one page
summary of the “diet” for her.
01/03- Went to my mother’s for her birthday with a small gift and some of her favorites treats.
01/04- After a few days on the AIP, took my other daughter out for sushi for a change of pace.
01/05- Listened to a friend who is struggling with a separation from his girlfriend of 20 years and
gave him a much needed hug.
01/06- Listened to a friend tell me about his sons who are both in the military and how they found their way back home to him. Teared up at this one:)
01/07- Drove my daughter 4 hours to a small town of a nearby state to look at the town of where she may spend 3 years doing her residency. Fun perk for all of us when we hiked a mountain and then decided to hit the major city in the state to go to the football game the next day!
Ok, I know none of these are really amazing acts of kindness, but it is the little things isn’t it?
Stayed tuned and please let me know “what was your good”?
